Serrania Ecuatoriana 1929
Al menos una veintena de fotografías realizadas en el siglo pasado por el célebre ecuatoriano Carlos Endara Andrade son parte de un proyecto que busca recordar y difundir el legado de este artista, cuya obra fue muy apreciada en Panamá por retratar la diversidad social de ese país centroamericano.
Este proyecto, que además incluye la recuperación de una película rodada por Endara y la publicación de un libro sobre la obra del artista, nació hace poco más de cuatro años cuando el panameño Mario Lewis adquirió la casa de Endara en ese país para convertirla en un museo. Dentro de la vivienda existían diversos objetos del ecuatoriano, entre ellos un baúl que contenía la cinta y las fotografías que ahora conforman esta muestra que se inaugura hoy, a las 17:30, en el Museo Municipal de Guayaquil.
La Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar de Quito asumió la restauración del filme rodado en 1929 y que fue cedido por Lewis a su amigo Mirko Rodic, gestor cultural en Guayaquil. “Dura una hora, la mitad dedicada a Guayaquil, la obra muestra tomas de la serranía, del viaje en ferrocarril y de Quito. Lastimosamente la última parte de la película que correspondía al viaje entre Quito e Ibarra está perdida”, cuenta Ana María Canelo, quien junto con Rodic se encargó de la curaduría del proyecto.
Canelo señala que la restauración de la película Ecuador 1929, cuya labor técnica estuvo a cargo del cineasta Alex Schlenker, fue una gran oportunidad para recolectar material muy valioso sobre la sociedad ecuatoriana de inicios del siglo XX, y también sobre la influencia que tuvieron Carlos Endara y su hermano Victoriano en Panamá, investigación que se refleja en las paredes de la sala Temporal del Museo local.
Su vida y trabajo en Panamá, su entorno familiar y varios de los viajes que realizó al Ecuador son parte de esta exposición que estará abierta hasta el 12 de octubre. Algunas son fotografías y otros fotogramas de la película filmada por Endara los que se ven en esta muestra, indica Rodic, quien dice haberse maravillado con las imágenes que muestra cómo lucían las personas de aquella época cuando Carlos Endara visitaba el Ecuador.
